May 1, 2019 - I SHOULD KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT
Day 121 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 11:16-31; Psalm 112; Hebrews 12:18-29)
“Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent. Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.” (Proverbs 11:12-13 ESV)
In the catechism’s explanation of the Eighth Commandment, we are encouraged to “defend our neighbor, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.” How are you doing in this area? Can others trust you to keep a confidence?
This old quote gives us some advice in combating loose tongues:
"If your lips would keep from slips,
Five things observe with care:
Of whom you speak, to whom you speak,
And how, and when, and where."
--from the 19th Century book THE RULES OF CIVILITY
After a sermon on this topic, a mother asked her five year old son “what did the pastor talk about today?” The youngster responded, “I should keep my mouth shut.” May the Lord help you and me to learn that lesson as well!
Lord, please forgive me for the times my words have hurt others. Help me to choose my words wisely, to put the best construction on everything, and to keep my mouth shut when You want me to. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.

April 30, 2019 - WHOLEHEARTED DEVOTION
Day 120 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 11:1-15; Psalm 111; Hebrews 12:7-17)
Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. (Psalm 111:1 ESV)
The whole-hearted devotion to the Lord that David is calling for is a common theme of the Bible. Here are some examples:
“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.” (1 Chronicles 28:9 ESV)
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. (Psalm 9:1 ESV)
Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart. (Psalm 119:2 ESV)
With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:10-11 ESV)
With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord! I will keep your statutes. (Psalm 119:145 ESV)
I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise. (Psalm 138:1 ESV)
Lord, Thee I love with all my heart;
I pray Thee, ne’er from me depart,
With tender mercy cheer me.
Earth has no pleasure I would share.
Yea, heav’n itself were void and bare
If Thou, Lord, wert not near me.
And should my heart for sorrow break,
My trust in Thee can nothing shake.
Thou art the portion I have sought;
Thy precious blood my soul has bought.
Lord Jesus Christ, my God and Lord, my God and Lord,
Forsake me not! I trust Thy Word. Amen.

April 29, 2019 - GOOD START TO YOUR WEEK
Day 119 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 10:1-17; Psalm 109; Hebrews 11:29-40)
“Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you.” (Amos 5:14 ESV)
Amos was warning the Israelites against trusting in their material wealth, and even considering this to mean that they were good with God. People today make the same mistake, interpreting their material prosperity as a sign that they need not humble themselves and turn to God.
We face choices all day long. There are good choices and there are poor choices. The worst choices are the ones that are not godly, that go against God’s holy will, and lead away from Him.
Amos told the people to seek good so that the Lord would be with them.
So, seek good by seeking God.
● Open your Bible.
● Take a look at your Catechism.
● Take Sunday’s sermon to heart.
● Think about the words of the hymns you get to sing in church.
IN SHORT
● Seek God and His plan for you.
Heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom to seek You by taking time to meditate on Your Word and Your goodness. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.

April 28, 2019 - CHOOSE YOUR WORDS WISELY
Day 118 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 10:1-17; Psalm 109; Hebrews 11:29-40)
“The wise heart will receive commands, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.” (Proverbs 10:8 ESV)
“The words we speak can be either a source of life and comfort, edifying those around us, or a source of strife and wickedness, stirring up hatred and division. Always choose your words prudently, being careful never to speak gossip, lies, or slander about another person. Defend those whose reputation is under assault and forgive those who sin against you. Jesus was a victim of false accusations; the blood He shed on the cross covers all our offenses.” (The Lutheran Study Bible, Concordia Publishing House, 2009, page 1017)
Luther’s Small Catechism puts it this way:
The Eighth Commandment You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor, betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest possible way (put the best construction on everything).
Lord, please forgive me for the times my words have hurt others. Help me to choose my words wisely and to put the best construction on everything. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

April 27, 2019 - BEGINNING WITH WISDOM
Day 117 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 9; Psalm 108; Hebrews 11:13-28)
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” (Proverbs 9:10 ESV)
If you don’t start out right, you won’t end up right. This is a true saying in almost every instance in life. When I was a boy, I loved to put model cars, planes and ships together. I had one problem, however. I did not like taking time to read the instructions. Often times I wound up with pieces left over!
When it comes to ending up right in the life, we need to start right. Sadly, too many people are not wise enough to get this. They think that they know what is best, what is wise for them.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” This does not mean merely be afraid of God. It means respecting Him, honoring Him, and regarding what He says to be the truth.
“The knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Knowing what God’s plan is for us truly gives us insight in to “what it is all about.”
● God demands that we keep His commands perfectly.
● If we commit even one sin, His justice requires our punishment.
● Because He still loves us, God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, to die in payment for our sins.
● All who believe in Jesus as their Savior from sin are forgiven those sins and promised eternal life in heaven.
Do you think is wise to trust in Jesus? Do you think that knowledge of the Holy One is the wisdom that poor, miserable sinners, like you and me, truly need?
Heavenly Father, please grant me true wisdom that comes from fearing and honoring You above all things. Holy Spirit, please continue to keep me in the one true faith by coming to me in God’s Word and Sacraments. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.

April 26, 2019 - THANK THE LORD AND SING HIS PRAISE
Day 116 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 8:22-36; Psalm 107; Hebrews 11:1-12)
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so. (Psalm 107:2 ESV)
Why are you alive? What does the Lord expect of you? He has called those He has redeemed from sin, death and the devil to say so, to be His witnesses. May we joyfully tell everyone what He has done so they too may know the joy and peace that come from sins forgiven and heaven guaranteed.
Thank the Lord and sing His praise; tell ev'ryone what He has done.
Let all who seek the Lord rejoice and proudly bear His name.
He recalls His promises and leads His people forth in joy with shouts of thanksgiving.
Alleluia, alleluia.
(Divine Service One, The Lutheran Service Book, CPH 2006)
Lord Jesus, thank You for my salvation. May my life be filled with daily thanksgiving as I tell others of all that You have done. Please lead us forth in Your joy. Amen.

April 25, 2019 - DECENTLY AND IN ORDER
Day 115 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 8:1-21; Psalm 106; Hebrews 10:32-39)
“But all things should be done decently and in order.” (1 Corinthians 14:40 ESV)
What excellent advice for life.
What excellent advice for students.
What excellent advice on how to interact with others.
What excellent advice for your daily walk with Jesus.
Where do you find the details for doing all things decently and in order?
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 ESV)
Following any advice other than the Lord’s will lead to disorder, confusion, sin and its consequences. Following what the Bible teaches concerning Christian living will lead to a decent and orderly life in the middle of the chaos of life today.
Lord, take my hand and lead me Upon life's way;
Direct, protect, and feed me From day to day.
Without your grace and favor I go astray,
So take my hand, O Savior, and lead the way.
("Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me," Lutheran Service Book, C.P.H. #722, stanza 1)
Lord, please help me to live my life to Your glory by doing everything decently and in order. May I find the motivation for such obedience in the forgiveness of my sins that You bestow on me through Jesus, my Savior. Amen.

April 24, 2019 - ENCOURAGEMENT AND WORSHIP
Day 114 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 7; Psalm 105; Hebrews 10:19-31)
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV)
The writer to the Hebrews reminds that the Day is drawing near. Judgement Day is coming soon. His advice is that we spend our remaining time encouraging, or stirring up one another to love and good works.
Since love and good works flow from a close relationship with God, he calls to “not neglect to meet together, as is the habit of some.” God comes to us in worship and strengthens our faith and prepares us for lives of faithful service.
As we worship, grant us vision,
Till Your love’s revealing light,
Till the height and depth and greatness
Dawns upon our quickened sight:
Making known the needs and burdens
Your compassion bids us bear,
Stirring us to faithful service,
Your abundant life to share.
(“Lord, Whose Love In Humble Service,” Lutheran Service Book #848)
Heavenly Father, may I find in the cross of my Savior the motivation to live a life of love and good works, all to Your glory. Please grant me a strong desire to meet with my brothers and sisters in Your house on a weekly basis, so that You can feed my soul with Your precious Word and Sacraments. As You encourage me, may I also encourage others. Amen.

April 23, 2019 - BENEFIT # 1 FORGIVENESS
Day 113 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 6:20-35; Psalm 104; Hebrews 10:11-18)
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit... He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:1-4, 10-12 ESV)
Do you notice that the list of divine benefits begins with forgiveness?
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity.”
Fellow repentant believer, God has made you holy and fit for heaven.
“The blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7b)
Jesus paid for you sins on Good Friday. All of your sins are now gone, separated from you as far as the east is from the west. WHAT A WONDERFUL REASON TO BLESS AND THANK THE LORD!
♬ Thank the Lord and sing His praise;
tell ev'ryone what He has done.
Let all who seek the Lord rejoice
Let all who seek the Lord rejoice
and proudly bear His name.
He recalls His promises
He recalls His promises
and leads His people forth in joy
with shouts of thanksgiving.
Alleluia, alleluia.
Gracious heavenly Father, I do bless You holy name for all of Your benefits showered upon me every day. I thank you, above all, for not repaying me according to my iniquities. Please continue to sustain me with Your steadfast love. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.

April 22, 2019 - GOD HATES BAD CHOICES, BUT...
Day 112 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 6:1-19; Psalm 103; Hebrews 10:1-10)
“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him; haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” (Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV)
Look at this list of bad choices we find in our selection today from Proverbs.
- haughty eyes,
- a lying tongue,
- hands that shed innocent blood,
- a heart that devises wicked plans,
- feet that make haste to run to evil,
- a false witness who breathes out lies,
- one who sows discord among brothers.”
Do you notice how these bad choices are all directed at others for the supposed benefit of self? But God hates them. And that is understandable because God has called to love one another instead.
The problem is that we like putting ourselves first. No, not all of us lie, kill or stir up trouble between “brothers.” But we are sinners just the same.
This fact takes us back to the events of this past weekend - the death and resurrection of Jesus and this clear promise of hope.
“God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Jesus is the good choice. Actually, “In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.” (Ephesians 1:5) God has chosen us.
Gracious heavenly Father, thank You for Your good and gracious choice of me to be one of Your precious children. Thank You for sending Jesus to pay for all of my bad choices. In the name of my Savior, Jesus. Amen.

April 21, 2019 - EASTER FOOLISHNESS
Day 111 - (Today’s Bible readings: Sunday Isaiah 65:17-25; Psalm 16; 1 Corinthians 15:19-26; Luke 24:1-12)
25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” (Luke 24:25-26 ESV)
There is a lot of foolishness associated with today. While rabbits, colored eggs, candy, and brunches are nice, but for too many people, this is all that Easter means.
Jesus had to contend with Easter foolishness later in the day on that first Easter. The Emmaus disciples foolishly thought that Jesus had been defeated on the cross. Instead, the resurrection reality is that Christ won the greatest victory of all time on that Friday we call Good Friday!
The Catechism explains His victory in this fact fashion:
Why is Christ's resurrection so important and comforting?
Christ's resurrection proves that
A. Christ is the Son of God;
B. His doctrine is the truth;
C. God the Father accepted Christ's sacrifice for the reconciliation of the world;
D. All believers in Christ will rise to eternal life.
In foolishness, the world rejects the deity of Jesus. Unbelievers do not accept His teachings to be true. Neither do they see a need for reconciliation and the guarantee of heaven to all who repent and believe.
Paul put it this way: "If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead... For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead." (1 Corinthians 15:19-21 ESV)
I praise You, my risen Savior, for dying for me on the cross and for rising in proof that You accomplished Your saving mission. Please use me to help others who are lost in the foolishness of this world hear of Your amazing victory for all of humanity. Amen.
“See” you at the Communion table this Easter morning!

April 19, 2019 - HOLY SATURDAY
Day 109 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 5; Psalm 102; Hebrews 8:11-28)
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison. (1 Peter 3:18-19 ESV)
What did Jesus do on the first Holy Saturday? While we do not have a minute by minute account, we do have the words of Peter. He tells us that Jesus descended into hell.
Why did Jesus descend into hell? Some say that He had endure more suffering. However, when Jesus declared “It is finished,” he was proclaiming that His suffering was over, and that our sin is paid for.
Peter lets us in on this question. Jesus was put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison. In other words, Jesus descended into hell to proclaim His victory over Satan and death.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your death on Calvary on my behalf. Thank You for defeating sin, death and the devil for me. Amen.

April 19, 2019 - GOOD FRIDAY WORDS FOR YOU
Day 109 - (Today’s Bible readings: Good Friday Isaiah 53; Psalm 22; Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:7-9; John 19:17-30)
One of the criminals who were hanged railed at him, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:39-43 ESV)
Today is Good Friday, the day that the greatest victory of all time was won. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He defeated our worst enemies of sin, death and the devil.
What does Good Friday mean for you personally? Because died in your place, paying for all of your sins, you will one day receive the same assurance Jesus gave the second criminal, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
Because you believe that Jesus died and rose for you, the best is yet to come. Heaven is yours for sure!
Jesus, pitying the sighs
Of the thief, who near you dies,
Promising him paradise:
Hear us, holy Jesus. (LSB 447)
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for taking my place on the cross, forgiving my sins, and promising me heaven. Please keep me faithful so that I will be blessed with paradise on my last day. Amen.

April 18, 2019 - NOT MY WILL, BUT THE FATHER’S WILL
Day 108 - (Maundy Thursday Bible readings: Exodus 12:1-14; Psalm 116; 1 Corinthians 11:23-32; John 13:1-17)
And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” (Mark 14:35-36 ESV)
Jesus was in agony that first Maundy Thursday. His bitter suffering that would lead to His innocent and cruel death had begun. His sweat was like drops of blood. The emotional and spiritual burden was almost unbearable. So Jesus prayed for relief. There are several important truths revealed here.
● Jesus truly suffered for us!
● God the Father’s plan for the salvation of sinful mankind would be fulfilled.
● We learn how to pray, “Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
This is exactly what He teaches us in the Lord’s prayer: “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
It goes against our selfish human nature to submit our will to someone other than ourselves. But look at how it turned out for Jesus,“who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)
The Father’s will is your salvation. Follow Him. Obey Him. Trust Him. Love Him.
Lord Jesus, thank You for drinking the bitter cup of suffering for my sake. Please help me to see the wisdom of yielding to the Father’s will in my life as well. Amen.
“See” you at the Communion rail today.

April 17, 2019 - KEEP FOCUSED ON JESUS
Day 107 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 4; Psalm 101; Hebrews 9:1-10)
“Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you... Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.” (Proverbs 4:25&27 ESV)
In the 4th chapter of Proverbs Solomon is giving advice for continuing in the right spiritual direction. “Focus on God and the things of God. It is not enough to have wisdom begun, it must be sustained.” (The Lutheran Study Bible, Concordia Publishing House, 2009, page 1006)
The writer to the Hebrews sharpens our focus by telling us to keep our eyes on Jesus.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2 NIV)
Gracious heavenly Father, please keep my eyes focused on Jesus and all that He did for me by dying on the cross. Amen.
Keep your eyes on Jesus today!

April 16, 2019 - MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE
Day 106 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 3:19-35; Psalm 100; Hebrews 8:1-13 )
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 100 ESV)
On Tuesday of Holy Week, looking forward to Good Friday, we Christians find our joy by “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross...” (Hebrews 12:2) Because of what Jesus accomplished the cross, all who believe and repent have the everlasting comfort of ...
Sins forgiven...
The relationship with God restored...
Strength for today provided and...
Heaven promised...
That is a pretty impressive list of the treasures that are yours as a believer in the Christ of Calvary. May your response to these undeserved blessings reflect Psalm 100!
Gracious heavenly Father, please accept my joyful noise of praise and thanksgiving for all that You have freely bestowed upon me in Jesus. May my life reflect this in all that I do and say this day. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.

April 15, 2019 - OUR ANCHOR MAN
Day 105 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 3:1-18; Psalm 99; Hebrews 7:11-28)
“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain.” (Hebrews 6:19 ESV)
In the sport of bowling they call the last bowler listed in the game as the anchor man. It is his job to anchor the team with a good game. Usually the anchor man is the best bowler on team.
In the letter to the Hebrews Jesus is referred to as a priest after the order of Melchizedek numerous times. Melchizedek was both a high priest and a king. Jesus was and is the ultimate and perfect Priest and King as well as Prophet.
It was the duty of the high priest to make sacrifices for the sins of the people behind the curtain in the holy of holies, the most sacred part of the tabernacle and then later in the temple.
But what does this have to do with hope? It was all about hope in the Old Testament times, as the high priest’s sacrifice reminded the people that their only hope of forgiveness would come through the shedding of blood.
Four days from now will be Good Friday, the day Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for the forgiveness of all people, giving everlasting hope to all who believe.
It is this central Biblical promise that serves as anchor for the child of God in all of the many storms of life.
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In ev'ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ the solid Rock I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
(The Lutheran Service Book, Concordia Publishing House, 2006, #575 v.2)
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my anchor man, holding me safe in Your forgiving arms. Thank You for shedding Your blood for me and my salvation. Please keep me close to You today, tomorrow and forever. Amen.

April 14, 2019 - PALM SUNDAY
Day 104 - (Today’s Bible readings: Deuteronomy 32:36–39; Psalm 31; Philippians 2:5-11; Luke 23:1-56)
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11 ESV)
In this Epistle reading for Palm Sunday Paul is teaching us that every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord. This is precisely what we hear the Jerusalem crowd proclaiming over 2,000 years ago.
“And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!’” (Matthew 21:9 ESV)
The sad thing is that not everyone is shouting “Hosanna.” They are not confessing Jesus as Lord. Do you know someone like this? Are you praying for this soul? Have you thought of inviting someone to the special services at your church this Holy Week... Good Friday and/or Easter?
All glory, laud, and honor
To You, Redeemer, King,
To whom the lips of children
Made sweet hosannas ring.
To You before Your passion
They sang their hymns of praise;
To You, now high exalted,
Our melody we raise.
(“All Glory, Laud, and Honor,” Lutheran Service Book #442)

Lord Jesus, I do confess You as my Lord. Thank You for answering my prayer for salvation. Please use me to share the message of Good Friday and Easter with someone this week with someone who is not confessing You yet. Hosanna, God save us. Amen.
“See” you at the Communion rail this morning!

April 13, 2019 - FOLLOW THE RIGHT PATH
Day 103 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 2; Psalm 98; Hebrews 7:1-10)
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6 ESV)
“Two roads exist for every person–the way of righteousness and the way of evil. The way of evil is populated with those who reject God and His good and gracious will. The way of evil leads to certain and eternal death. The way of righteousness is traveled by God’s forgiven children through faith in Christ Jesus, kept on the narrow path by the working of the Holy Spirit through the means of grace. The path of righteousness leads to certain and eternal life.” (The Lutheran Study Bible, Concordia Publishing House, 2009, page 1002)
Lord, take my hand and lead me Upon life's way;
Direct, protect, and feed me From day to day.
Without your grace and favor I go astray,
So take my hand, O Savior, and lead the way.
(“Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me,” Lutheran Service Book #722)

Gracious heavenly Father, please keep me on the narrow path today that I may be part of Your eternal family. In the name of my Savior, Jesus. Amen.
