Day 304 (Through the Bible in a year readings for today: Jeremiah 29,30; Titus 1)
IT’S STILL ALL ABOUT JESUS
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11 ESV)
Today is the 504th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation. Reformation Day is a day set aside to celebrate the plan God has for the salvation of sinners, a plan that grants repentant sinners an eternal future with Him. God’s plan is not based on what we do, for we cannot save ourselves. Instead, we are saved by grace alone through faith alone on the basis of Scripture alone. That is why the Missouri Synod theme for the 500th anniversary (in 2017) was (and still is) It’s Still All About Jesus!
Luther wrote:
With might of ours can naught be done,
Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the valiant One,
Whom God Himself elected.
Ask ye, Who is this?
Jesus Christ it is, of Sabaoth Lord,
And there's none other God;
He holds the field forever.
(A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, Lutheran Service Book, CPH 2006, #656 stanza 2)
Please watch this video. It gives an excellent overview of the Reformation and the fact that we stand IN CHRIST ALONE.
Heavenly Father, remind me this day, and every day, that Your plan for my future is all about Jesus, my risen Savior. Amen.
