"I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)
Day 111 - (Today’s Bible readings: Prov. 5; Psalm 102; Heb. 9:11–28)
THE BLOOD OF JESUS - PRICELESS
“Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” (Hebrews 9:22 ESV)
The Old Testament sacrificial system that required the blood sacrifice of animals, pointed to shedding of Christ’s blood as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Do you understand what this means for you personally?
“The blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7b ESV)
1. Not all the blood of beasts
On Jewish altars slain
Could give the guilty conscience peace
Or wash away the stain.
2. But Christ, the heav'nly Lamb,
Takes all our sins away;
A sacrifice of nobler name
And richer blood than they.
5. Believing, we rejoice
To see the curse remove;
We bless the Lamb with cheerful voice
And sing His bleeding love.
(Not All the Blood of Beasts, Lutheran Service Book, Concordia Publishing House, 2006, # 431)
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for shedding Your blood in payment for my sins. Bless my regular reception of Your body and Your blood in remembrance of Your sacrifice. Amen.
