"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)
Day 304 - (Today’s Bible readings: Revelation 14:6-7; Psalm 46; Romans 3:19-28; John 8:31-36)
GOD’S WORD IS OUR GREAT HERITAGE
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32 ESV)
Today is Reformation Day, the day we commemorate Martin Luther’s nailing of the 95 theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg, Germany. This also marks the 500th anniversary of the publication of his translation of the New Testament into the language of the people. The picture included today is of his room in the Wartburg Castle where he worked on the translation from Greek into German.
Why is this so important? Jesus Himself answers that question for us: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
THE truth is that...
● Only Jesus can free you from your sin.
● He accomplished this by dying in your place on the cross of Calvary.
● You can now have real peace when you think about your future.
● Heave is yours for sure by virtue of you faith in your Savior, Jesus!
● Relent, believe and abide in Jesus’ freeing truth!
God's Word is our great heritage
And shall be ours forever;
To spread its light from age to age
Shall be our chief endeavor.
Through life it guides our way,
In death it is our stay.
Lord, grant, while worlds endure,
We keep its teachings pure
Throughout all generations.

Lord Jesus, thank You for revealing the truth of Your soul-freeing death on my behalf. Please help me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to remain in Your truth today so that I can dwell with you in eternity. Until then, please use me to, like Luther, spread Your truth to all who will listen. In Your saving name. Amen.
