Monday, August 14, 2023 - EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW

"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You havMonday, August 14, 2023 - e kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer

Monday, August 14, 2023 - Day 226  - (Today’s Bible readings: Jeremiah 52:12-33; Psalm 43; Philippians 2:1-11)

EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW

“And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:8-11 ESV)

Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords because He is the Son of God, Who came in the flesh to save sinners from eternal death. Therefore, His name is to be honored by all people.

While Paul’s words direct us to the day when every single person will bow and confess Christ as Lord, we Christians willingly and gladly do so now. Every time we gather in our churches we confess that Jesus is our Savior, and we bow at the Communion rail as we receive His body and blood.

“Every knee shall bow...and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” is also a warning call to those who are not believers. Unless they repent and believe in Jesus as their Savior, even though on Judgment Day they will acknowledge Jesus is Lord, it will be too late. “Now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2 ESV)

Lord Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Savior. Please have mercy on those who do not yet know You, and move Your people to witness to these lost ones before it is too late. Amen.
