April 13, 2020 - The Lord Will Not Forsake You

Day 104 - (Today’s Bible readings: 2 Chronicles 24:20-27 Psalm 94; Luke 11:27-36)

The Lord Will Not Forsake You

“For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage.” Psalm 94:14 ESV

As we head into week five of the “safe at home” order many are finding it difficult to handle the isolation. These sure are strange days. What comfort can we find? Today’s reading from Psalm 94 contains this gem of a promise from God (actually all of His promises are gems). “For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage.”

● The Lord will not forsake His people, and that includes you.

● The Lord will not abandon His heritage - those He declares to be the beneficiaries of His grace and mercy.

We have just witnessed the ultimate assurance of God’s desire to keep us safe and close to Him. Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, you can be assured of the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Did you notice that these promises are for “His people,” those God would call “My people?” The English Standard Version of the Bible lists 381 references to the term “my people.” One of those references is 2 Chronicles 7:14:

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

While God promises not to forsake His people, He does call us to repent and walk in His ways.

Lord God heavenly Father, please hear my prayer of repentance and my call for mercy. Therefore, as one of Your people, I rejoice in Your promise to not me. Amen.
