Day 141 - (Today’s Bible readings: Leviticus 11:1-28; Psalm 119:97-104; 1 Corinthians 1:1–17)
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:9 ESV)
Paul has just pointed out that the church in Corinth did not lack any spiritual gift as the Lord prepared them for eternity. He now makes it the clear that the reason for this blessing is the faithfulness of God.
This is precisely what we mean when we state that we are “blessed by the Lord.” Our faithful God has done it all for us. We sinners do not deserve it, yet God sent His Son to die for us on the cross. He claimed us as His own on the day of our baptism. He comes to us week in and week out in public worship where He feeds us with His Word and Sacraments. Ultimately He will take us home to be with Him at the end of our days.
What peace and joy are ours because God is faithful to us “poor miserable sinners.”
Great is Thy Faithfulness, O God my Fatherr,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not: Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be.
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
