October 11, 2018 - IS THERE LIFE AFTER DEATH?

Day 284 - (Today’s Bible readings: Job 11; Psalm 97; Luke 10:13-24)

“Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble. He comes out like a flower and withers;  he flees like a shadow and continues not...If a man dies, shall he live again?” (Job 14:1-2, 14 ESV)

Job’s suffering causes him to share some harsh sounding thoughts. Life is short. Is there life after death?

Jesus provides a clear answer to all who repent and believe: “Because I live, you also will live.”  (John 14:19b ESV)

Paul expands on Christ’s promise:

When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (John 15:54-57 ESV)

Jesus did, in fact, deliver us from death by His death and resurrection. Through faith in Him, we are guaranteed eternal life.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for promising me eternal life with You. Use me to share Your promises with others so they, too, may be saved.  Amen.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105 ), is the theme for this three-year journey through the entire Old Testament once (the Psalms - twice yearly), and the New Testament twice. There will be daily readings from the O.T., Psalms and the N.T. Special days on the church calendar will be highlighted with appropriate readings. This calendar has been compiled by representatives of the Lutheran Church of Canada, the North American Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
