Tuesday, August 23, 2022 - GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT

"I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)

Day 235 - (Today’s Bible readings: 2 Kings 19:20–37; Psalm 52; Matt. 24:36–25:13)

GODLINESS WITH CONTENTMENT

“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.” (1 Timothy 6:6-8 ESV)

Being content is not how most people live. All of the TV ads are meant to make us not be content. Their goal is to create a desire to have more of whatever product they are pushing.

The picture attached here reveals a man who could well be very content. Bible study, prayer and meditation can go a long way towards contentment. Attending church and receiving the Lord’s body and blood do the same.

Lord Jesus, fill me with godly contentment as I trust in Your daily presence in my life and Your gracious gift of forgiveness. May the contentment that comes from You guide me every day for the rest of my life.  Amen.

Pastor David Paape
