Wednesday, September 25, 2024 - WHAT WONDROUS LOVE IS THIS

"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)

Wednesday, September 25, 2024 - Day 269 (Through the Bible in a year readings for today: Isaiah 4-6; Galatians 3)

WHAT WONDROUS LOVE IS THIS

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree’” (Galatians 3:13 ESV)

This is the heart of the Christian faith. Jesus took our place and redeemed us from the curse that should follow our breaking of God’s Law. We have disobeyed almighty God, and His response was to send His only begotten Son to redeem us. His death on the cross has bought us back from sin, death and the devil. What wondrous love this truly is!

  What wondrous love is this,
O my soul, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
  What wondrous love is this
That caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul!
  (Lutheran Service Book #543-1)

Lord Jesus, thank You for bearing the dreadful curse I deserve so the I could be redeemed. May I remember Your wondrous love every day of my life. Amen.
