November 23, 2018 - PROBLEM - PROMISE - PROOF

Day 327 - (Today’s Bible readings: Joshua 11:1-14; Psalm 119:137-144; Acts 1:1-11)

4 And they came out with all their troops, a great horde, in number like the sand that is on the seashore, with very many horses and chariots. 5 And all these kings joined their forces and came and encamped together at the waters of Merom to fight against Israel.  (Joshua 11:4-5 ESV)

THE PROBLEM facing the Children of Israel was the massing army they would soon have to face. This is not unlike the enemies massing against us day in a day out. While we are pretty sure that the sight of their enemies gathering to do them harm caused many of God people to quake in their boots, we know they still had confidence. They were God’s chosen people, after all!

Then God gave them THE PROMISE.

6 And the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.” (Joshua 11:6 ESV)

God has given us a promise in the face of our fierce enemies of sin, death and the devil.

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2:38 ESV)

What is THE PROOF that God can keep His promise to fix our big problems?

7 So Joshua and all his warriors came suddenly against them by the waters of Merom and fell upon them. 8 And the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel, who struck them and chased them as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the Valley of Mizpeh. And they struck them until he left none remaining.” (Joshua 11:7-8 ESV)

He did it for Israel, and He does if for you too.

“He said to the paralytic, ‘Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.’”  (Matthew 9:4 ESV)

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise to deliver me from my problems of sin, death and the devil. Thank You keeping Your promise by sending Jesus to die in my place on the cross and paying the price for all of my sin.  Amen.
