December 7 , 2018 - A FACE LIKE AN ANGEL

Day 341 - (Today’s Bible readings: Joshua 20; Psalm 129; Acts 6:8-15)

“And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.” (Acts 6:15 ESV)

How amazing is the fact that Stephen’s face is described as being angelic since in the next chapter of Acts he is going to be stoned to death. On the other hand, it is really not that amazing when you stop to really think about it.

Stephen was convinced that Jesus was his Savior.

That means that he was convinced that he would go to heaven when he died.

His confidence in the Lord’s ultimate and eternal protection reflects what we find in Psalm 118:
“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" (Psalm 118:5 ESV)

As a firm believer in all that Jesus had done for him, and all that Jesus was promising to do for him in eternity, Stephen’s angelic appearance reflect his...

Sincerity (He had no doubts about Jesus at all.)

Confidence (He knew that Jesus would keep his promises of forgiveness and heaven.)

Fearlessness (What can man do to me?)

Serenity (It is well with my soul!)

Divine Calm (Even when death is imminent!)

Lord God almighty, grant me sincerity of faith, confidence in My Jesus, fearlessness when facing challenges, serenity and divine calm as Your precious, blood-bought child. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.
