Thursday, January 4, 2024 - THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS

"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)
Thursday, January 4, 2024 - Day 4  (Through the Bible in a year readings for today: Genesis 9-11; Matthew 4)

THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS

On the eleventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Eleven Pipers Piping
(11 Faithful Disciples)
Ten Lords a Leaping
(10 Commandments)
Nine Ladies Dancing
(9 Fruits of the Spirit)
Eight Maids a-Milking
(8 Beatitudes)
Seven Swans a-Swimming
(7 Gifts of the Spirit)
Six Geese a Laying
(Six days of Creation)
Five Golden Rings
(The Pentateuch... first 5 books of the Bible)
Four Calling Birds
(The 4 Gospels... Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)
Three French Hens
(The Holy Trinity... Father, Son and Holy Spirit)
Two Turtle Doves
(The Old and New Testaments)
A Partridge in a Pear Tree.
(OUR LORD JESUS)

The Eleven Pipers Piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

1) Simon Peter, 2) Andrew, 3) James, 4) John, 5) Philip, 6) Bartholomew, 7) Matthew, 8) Thomas, 9) James bar Alphaeus, 10) Simon the Zealot, 11) Judas bar James. The list does not include the twelfth disciple, Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus to the religious leaders and the Romans, nor does it include Matthias, the replacement for Judas. '

Dearest Lord Jesus, may I be faithful to You, just like the disciples. To this end, please give me a hunger to read and learn more from Your Word this year. Amen.
