Tuesday, August 22, 2023 - DON’T BE MISLED

"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer

Tuesday, August 22, 2023 - Day 234  - (Today’s Bible readings: Lamentations 4:1-22; Psalm 51; Colossians 2:6-15)

DON’T BE MISLED

“See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” (Colossians 2:8 ESV)

Like the Galatians, the Christians in Colossi were being misled. They were being told lies about the deity of Jesus, prompting Paul to remind them of the truth.

“He (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. . .  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. . .  He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he is preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:15-20 ESV)

Do not be deceived. Jesus, Son of God and Son of Man, is your only hope!  He is the only One who died for your forgiveness. He is Your only way to heaven. And He is your only source of peace and strength today. Ask Him to renew your relationship with Him every day.

1. Renew me, O eternal Light,
And let my heart and soul be bright,
Illumined with the light of grace
That issues from Your holy face.

2. Remove the pow'r of sin from me
    And cleanse all my impurity
That I may have the strength and will
Temptations of the flesh to still.

3. Create in me a new heart, Lord,
That gladly I obey Your Word.
Let what You will be my desire,
And with new life my soul inspire.

4. Grant that I only You may love
And seek those things which are above
Till I behold You face to face,
O Light eternal, through Your grace.
(Renew Me, O Eternal Light, Lutheran Service Book #704)

Lord Jesus, protect from all that would deceive me and lead me away from You. Please renew my relationship with You and keep me close to You today and always. Amen.
