Sunday, May 12, 2024 - MOTHER’S PRAYER

"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)

Sunday, May 12, 2024 - Day 133 (Through the Bible in a year readings for today: 2 Kings 23-25 John 7:1-31)

MOTHER’S PRAYER

“(My) hope is that ... your faith increases.” (2 Corinthians 6:1-2 ESV)

This adaptation of Paul’s encouragement to the Corinthians aptly describes the greatest prayer a Christian mother can have for her child/children. I share this from first-hand experience. Of all the things my dear mother taught me, the most important has been the supreme importance of faith in our Savior, a treasure she fervently prayed for on my behalf for my entire life until she went to heaven  5 years ago. What a blessing!

Proverbs 31 is the description of a godly wife. Verses 25 and 26 apply perfectly on Mothers’ Day 2023.

Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. (Proverbs 31:25-26 ESV)

As you think of your mother, what is at the top of the list of things you thank her for?

The answer is her faithful prayer on your behalf!

“(My) hope is that ... your faith increases.” (2 Corinthians 6:1-2 ESV)

Oh, blest the parents who give heed
  Unto their children's foremost need
And weary not of care or cost.
May none to them and heav'n be lost!
  (Lutheran Service Book, CPH, 2006, # 862 St. 3)

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for the prayers of my faithful Mother. Keep all of Your children in Your tender care today and always!  And as always, Thy will be done. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thank God for your mother today.

“See” you at the Communion rail this morning!
