"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)
Tuesday, May 28, 2024 - Day 149 (Through the Bible in a year readings for today: I Chron. 26,27; John 11:18-46)
DO YOU BELIEVE THIS
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” (John 11:23-27 ESV)
Jesus reveals the most astounding news to ever hit our ear drums.
“Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.”
Death is a harsh reality of life on this earth. Sooner or later, we will all die. However, we Christians are assured that death is only temporary. The One who is the resurrection and the life has guaranteed that, through faith in Him, we will live after we die! Christ’s death on the cross, in payment for all of our sins, guarantees this.
But wait. Did you catch what Jesus said in verse 26? “Everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” Christians never die? That’s right. Our bodies will die, but our souls will not. Like the thief on the cross, or last day is our “today,” when we will be with Jesus in paradise.
There is one more thing that Jesus said that we need to consider: “Do you believe this?” Do you?
Lord Jesus, thank You for defeating death and promising eternal life to all who believe. May I, like Martha, boldly confess my faith in You at every opportunity.
And as ever, THY WILL BE DONE. Amen.
