Day 198 - Luke Saturday (chapters 19-20)
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:12 ESV)
These words of Jesus immediately follow the account of His calling Zacchaeus out of the sycamore tree. Zacchaeus comes down, invites Jesus to his house, and becomes a changed man. Such is the effect Jesus has on sinners who repent and believe.
When confronted by jealous onlookers, Jesus gives us this glorious Gospel declaration:
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:12 ESV)
These words are truly good news for us sinners, as John Newton put it:
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see!
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your amazing grace in sending Jesus to seek and to save lost sinners like me. Please keep me ever faithful to You that I may know Your forgiveness and reconciliation. Amen.
“See” you in church tomorrow.
