Day 301 - Ecclesiastes Thursday (chapters 1-2)
“All things are full of weariness . . . What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun..” (Ecclesiastes 1:8-9 ESV)
The book of Ecclesiastes is known for its emphasis on the meaninglessness of life. This can lead to weariness. And weariness can wear us down.
Art thou weary, art thou troubled,
Art thou sore distrest?
“Come to Me,” saith One, “and coming, be at rest.”
(The Lutheran Hymnal, Concordia Publishing House, 1941, #513)
“Life is fleeting and has no meaning apart from God’s love in Christ Jesus. Faith worked in us by the power of the Gospel brings meaning to life and the certainty of forgiveness, life, and salvation.” (The Lutheran Study Bible, Concordia Publishing House, 2009, page 1051)
Heavenly Father, thank You for relieving my weariness and giving meaning to my life by making me a winner in Jesus, my Savior. Amen.
Pastor David Paape
