June 13, 2017 - GOD KNOWS YOUR NAME

Day 164 - Ezra 3-5 & John 20

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). (John 20:11-16 ESV)

In the midst of her sorrow over the death of Jesus, Mary Magdalene didn’t recognize her risen Savior. Do the sorrows, disappointments and challenges of life get in the way of seeing Jesus in your life? As Jesus revealed Himself to Mary by simply speaking her name, so He reveals Himself to you by calling out your name on the day of your Baptism. Since then He continues to call you by name at the Communion table and in His holy Word.

I am Jesus' little lamb,
Ever glad at heart I am;
For my Shepherd gently guides me,
Knows my need and well provides me,
Loves me ev'ry day the same,
Even calls me by my name

Lord Jesus, as You connected with Mary be calling her name, please do the same for me. Remind me every day that You know my name. Amen.
