Day 313 - 2 Chronicle Tuesday (Chapters 33-36)
“The Lord spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they paid no attention. Therefore the Lord brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who captured Manasseh... And when he was in distress, he entreated the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers. He prayed to him, and God was moved by his entreaty and heard his plea and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God.”
(2 Chronicles 33:10-12 ESV)
“Through distress and admonition of the prophets, the Lord leads Manasseh to repentance. Like a patient father, the Lord disciplines us and even allows us to learn our lessons the hard way, through error and pain. Yet is He is always ready to hear us, just as He heard and had compassion on wicked Manasseh.” (The Lutheran Study Bible, CPH, 2009, page 2138)
Manasseh refused to pay attention to the Lord, so the Lord woke him up.
May the Lord wake you up to your need for his mercy and forgiveness. And then, like Manasseh, may you know that the Lord is your God.
Heavenly Father, thank You for waking me up to my desperate need for Your forgiveness and mercy. May my life reflect the fact that You are my God and that Jesus is my Savior. Amen.
