Day 162 - (Today’s Bible readings: Leviticus 24; Psalm 131; 1 Corinthians 14:26-40)
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 ESV)
“Living in unity is as soothing as being anointed with oil, as refreshing as dew from the mountain on a parched desert. Descriptions of goodness and pleasure of unity and brotherhood remind us that we often experience discord, strife and disunity instead. This is true of our families, our communities and our churches. Yet Christ’s prayer is “that they may be one, even as We are one.” (John 17:11) He bestows that unity through the Holy Spirit in the refreshing waters of Baptism.” (The Lutheran Study Bible, Concordia Publishing House, 2009, page 979)
● Are you experiencing the heartache of disunity?
● Are there broken relationships in your family, at work, or in your church?
● The ultimate source of unity is found at the cross
where Jesus died for all sinners,
including you and those with whom you are at odds.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the unity that is ours in Christ. Help me reach out to that person I am at odds with. May the fact that Jesus died for both of us help me to see that person differently and to share Your forgiveness with him/her. In Jesus’ saving and uniting name. Amen.
