April 17, 2019 - KEEP FOCUSED ON JESUS

Day 107 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 4; Psalm 101; Hebrews 9:1-10)

“Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you... Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.” (Proverbs 4:25&27  ESV)

In the 4th chapter of Proverbs Solomon is giving advice for continuing in the right spiritual direction. “Focus on God and the things of God. It is not enough to have wisdom begun, it must be sustained.” (The Lutheran Study Bible, Concordia Publishing House, 2009, page 1006)

The writer to the Hebrews sharpens our focus by telling us to keep our eyes on Jesus.

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2 NIV)

Gracious heavenly Father, please keep my eyes focused on Jesus and all that He did for me by dying on the cross. Amen.

Keep your eyes on Jesus today!

Pastor David Paape

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105 ), is the theme for this three-year journey through the entire Old Testament once (the Psalms - twice yearly), and the New Testament twice. There will be daily readings from the O.T., Psalms and the N.T. Special days on the church calendar will be highlighted with appropriate readings. This calendar has been compiled by representatives of the Lutheran Church of Canada, the North American Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
