April 29, 2019 - GOOD START TO YOUR WEEK

Day 119 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 10:1-17; Psalm 109; Hebrews 11:29-40)

“Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you.” (Amos 5:14 ESV)

Amos was warning the Israelites against trusting in their material wealth, and even considering this to mean that they were good with God. People today make the same mistake, interpreting their material prosperity as a sign that they need not humble themselves and turn to God.

We face choices all day long. There are good choices and there are poor choices. The worst choices are the ones that are not godly, that go against God’s holy will, and lead away from Him.

Amos told the people to seek good so that the Lord would be with them.

So, seek good by seeking God.

Open your Bible.
Take a look at your Catechism.
Take Sunday’s sermon to heart.
Think about the words of the hymns you get to sing in church.
IN SHORT
Seek God and His plan for you.

Heavenly Father, grant me the wisdom to seek You by taking time to meditate on Your Word and Your goodness. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.

Pastor David Paape

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105 ), is the theme for this three-year journey through the entire Old Testament once (the Psalms - twice yearly), and the New Testament twice. There will be daily readings from the O.T., Psalms and the N.T. Special days on the church calendar will be highlighted with appropriate readings. This calendar has been compiled by representatives of the Lutheran Church of Canada, the North American Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. Please click this link for the daily reading calendar:
