April 30, 2019 - WHOLEHEARTED DEVOTION

Day 120 - (Today’s Bible readings: Proverbs 11:1-15; Psalm 111; Hebrews 12:7-17)

Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. (Psalm 111:1 ESV)

The whole-hearted devotion to the Lord that David is calling for is a common theme of the Bible. Here are some examples:

“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.” (1 Chronicles 28:9 ESV)

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. (Psalm 9:1 ESV) 

Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart. (Psalm 119:2 ESV)

With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:10-11 ESV)

With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O Lord! I will keep your statutes. (Psalm 119:145 ESV)

I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise. (Psalm 138:1 ESV)

Lord, Thee I love with all my heart;
I pray Thee, ne’er from me depart,
With tender mercy cheer me.
Earth has no pleasure I would share.
Yea, heav’n itself were void and bare
If Thou, Lord, wert not near me.
And should my heart for sorrow break,
My trust in Thee can nothing shake.
Thou art the portion I have sought;
Thy precious blood my soul has bought.
Lord Jesus Christ, my God and Lord, my God and Lord,
Forsake me not! I trust Thy Word. Amen.
