“But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and did not let the people go.”
(Exodus 8:32 ESV)
God turns all the water of Egypt into blood, but hard-hearted Pharaoh says no.
God sends a plague of frogs and gnats and flies throughout the land of Egypt, but hard-hearted Pharaoh says no.
Do we ever act hard-heartedly toward God? No, our water hasn’t turned into blood, and we aren’t swatting at flying or hopping pests. But, too often, we do hard-heartedly refuse to follow God’s Law and insist on living for ourselves.
May David’s plea be ours as well:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10 ESV)
Lord, protect me from hard-heartedness by cleansing my heart today, and every day, by means of Jesus’ blood and righteousness. Renew a right spirit within me by means of Your constant mercy and grace. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.
