Day 219 - John Saturday (chapters 1-2)
“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” (John 1:29 ESV)
These words of John the Baptist are a timeless call to sinners looking for a way out of their hopelessness and helplessness. Folks do try to dull the nagging sense that things are not right with themselves and God. They may not be able to identify the reason for their mad dash after pleasure, possession, power and prestige. Nonetheless, they are searching for happiness, joy, fulfillment, and meaning in all the wrong places.
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” is God’s call to look to Jesus as the “author and perfecter of our faith, who, for the joy that was set before him endured the cross.” (Hebrews 12:2)
Look to Jesus because He alone....
● bore your sins on the cross,
● loved you enough to die for you,
● endured hell so that you can have heaven!
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” How do you respond to those words? Two of John’s disciples responded this way: “The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.” (John 1:37)
The Internet picture has Jesus talking to a young man with these words, “No, I’m not talking about Twitter. I literally want you to follow me!”
Follow Jesus by confessing your sins and by repenting of them as You ask God the Father to forgive you for Jesus’ sake. And then be at peace as you simply live for Him who died for you and rose again.
Thank You, dearest Lord Jesus, for being the sacrificial Lamb of God who died for the sins of the whole world, including mine. Help me to always trust in You as my Savior and Lord. Enable me to live the rest of my life for You out of gratitude for all that You have done for me. Amen.
“See” you in church tomorrow
