Thursday, November 23, 2023 - THANKSGIVING BLESSING

"I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen." (Luther's Morning Prayer)

THANKSGIVING BLESSING

“The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13 ESV)

A Christian has many reasons for thanksgiving. The top of the list is “the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.” (Conclusion of the Apostles’ Creed) We don’t deserve these priceless spiritual blessings, yet they are freely and daily showered upon us in Jesus!

How do we show our thanksgiving to God for all that He has done for us? “Fear God and keep his commandments.” In other words, we get to live for Him who died for us and rose again.

Now thank we all our God,
With heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done,
In whom His world rejoices;
Who from our mother's arms
Has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love,
And still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God
Through all our life be near us,
With ever-joyful hearts
And blessèd peace to cheer us
And keep us in His grace,
And guide us when perplexed
And free us from all ills
In this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God
The Father now be given,
The Son, and Him who reigns,
With them in highest heaven,
The one eternal God,
Whom earth and heaven adore;
For thus it was, is now,
And shall be evermore.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift forgiveness given to me in my Savior Jesus. Help me to show my thanks to You by living for You. In Jesus’ saving name. Amen.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving Day!
