Day 250 - 1 Chronicles Tuesday (chapters 20-24)
David commanded to gather together the resident aliens who were in the land of Israel, and he set stonecutters to prepare dressed stones for building the house of God. David also provided great quantities of iron for nails for the doors of the gates and for clamps, as well as bronze in quantities beyond weighing, and cedar timbers without number, for the Sidonians and Tyrians brought great quantities of cedar to David. For David said, “Solomon my son is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and glory throughout all lands. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David provided materials in great quantity before his death.” (2 Chronicles 22:2-5 ESV)
Because of David’s great success in battle, starting with Goliath, God would not allow him to build the temple. He wanted the hands that would build His house to have no blood on them. We have an important lesson here. No, not an antiwar message, but a reminder that God has different tasks and different vocations in mind for each of us. David was a man of God-directed war, while Solomon was a man of God-provided rest and peace. Each had their tasks to do for the Lord. Each had a God-given purpose.
What does the Lord want you to do with your life? What is His plan for your remaining time on this earth? I don’t know the day-to-day details that would answer those questions for you. But I do know that He wants you to repent, believe and serve. And why should we want to do this? Simply because Jesus first loved us and died for us so that we are forgiven when we repent. Do you believe that too? Then spend the rest of you life in thankful service to Him.
Lord Jesus, thank You for dying for my sins. Show me the details of how You want me to live the rest of my life in Your service. Amen.
