January 2, 2017 - I WAS AFRAID

January 2, 2017 - Day 2 - Genesis 3-5 & Matthew 2

"I was afraid..." (Genesis 3:10 ESV)

Adam and Eve experienced many new things in the Garden of Eden. Many of them were, as Scripture says, “very good.” Fear was not one of those good things. Adam and Eve had just learned one of life’s lessons the really, really hard way. They had eaten the forbidden fruit and now God was back. So they hid. When God asked why, Adam revealed his new-found fear.

Have you even been afraid of facing God?
Have you ever experienced guilt and shame over something you had done?
Have you ever wanted to hide?

The picture shows Adam and Eve being kicked out of Eden. However, before this occurred, God gave them a promise, way out, a word of real comfort and hope!

“I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15 ESV)

This prophecy was fulfilled on the cross where Jesus crushed Satan’s head. “It is finished.”

We no longer need to fear God. No, not because we don’t sin, but because we are forgiven. In this new year we get to live thankful lives for the God who sent His Son to save us.

Heavenly Father, thank You for removing my tendency to fear You. Please sustain my faith in You and Your merciful salvation of my soul. Amen.
