January 6, 2017 - AN ONGOING EPIPHANY
Day 6 - Genesis 15-17 & Matthew 5:27-48
Today is Epiphany, the gentiles Christmas. The word “Epiphany” has several meanings:
1. A Christian festival, observed on January 6, commemorating the manifestation of Christ to the gentiles in the persons of the Wise men.
2. An appearance or manifestation, especially of a deity.
3. A sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something.
The Wise Men traveled a long way to worship Jesus, the newborn king. Their epiphany experienced changed their lives (definition #1).
The Epiphany of our Lord has changed our lives as well. So much so, that we find ourselves experiencing repeated epiphanies (definition #3).
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:43-44 ESV)
Talk about a life changing epiphany! How are you doing on that love your enemy business?
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Epiphany, and shining the light of Your salvation into my life. Please grant me the daily epiphany that comes from reading from the Bible. Thank You for also directing me to love everyone, even my enemies. Amen.
Have a blessed Epiphany,
Pastor David Paape
