Day 135 - Luke Saturday (chapters 1-2)
“... your wife Elizabeth will bear a son, and you shall call his name John.” (Luke 1:13 ESV)
“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.” (Luke 1:31 ESV)
The Gospel of Luke begins with two special birth announcements . . . John the Baptist and Jesus the Christ.
Both mothers-to-be were in circumstances where the promised event should not have been possible. Elizabeth was beyond child-bearing age and Mary was a virgin. The response to both women and to all of us is this:
“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37 ESV)
What comforting words as we remember the mission God had in mind for cousins John and Jesus! John was sent to prepare the way for the Messiah, and Jesus was sent to be THE WAY. (John 14:6 ESV)
Heavenly Father, thank You for the good news announced to Elizabeth and Mary. Thank You for the miracles You fulfilled in both of them. Thank You above all for Jesus whom You sent to be the Way, the Truth and the Life. Amen.
“See” you in church tomorrow!
