Day 202 (Through the Bible in a year readings for today: Psalm 34,35; Acts 22)
DELIVERANCE
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. (Psalm 34:18-19 ESV)
Have you ever been brokenhearted, crushed, and afflicted? If so, what did you do about it? The hymn writer gives us a clear and powerful answer.
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness -
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
(“What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” Lutheran Service Book, CPH 2006, #770 stanza 2)
The Lord is as near to you as a prayer. Brokenhearted, crushed, afflicted, Jesus will deliver you in His time. So, pray!
Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our Refuge -
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He'll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
(“What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” Lutheran Service Book, CPH 2006, #770 stanza 3)
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my deliverer. Please hear my prayer for mercy, pardon and peace. Yes, may I find eternal solace in You. Amen.
